General Policies:
The best way to order something from us  is by the secure site shopping cart which is now available for all items listed on our web site. That system is accessible through the buttons on the actual product pages and is hopefully self explanatory.
You can call us with an order during our normal working hours, 9:30 - 8:30 Central Time, M-F; 9:30- 5:00 Saturday and 11:30-5:00 Sunday. 608-274-5613.
You can Fax us an order 608-274-5561. Fill out the order form (click here) and send it to us.
We ship by UPS  and charge you exact freight for your purchases... no service or handling charges! We also ship quite a bit by U.S. Mail and have been known to use Fed Ex  if the customer has a compelling reason to do so. If you'd like a little better idea what freight charges would be, send us an E-mail at info@puffins.com or call 1-888-244-7833.
We ship Internationally. This is true even though we only speak English, we'd like to thank all our international customers who are very patient with us. We mostly ship international packages via the U.S.Postal Service. But certain shipments to certain countries may be best accomplished by one of the private carriers. We'll work on a case by case basis with you. E-mail us at info@puffins.com

Adding on to an existing order is only possible when we are not busy. The last time we were not busy was Aug.8, 1996... we're not sure what was wrong...let's hope it doesn't happen again soon! Seriously, we start processing your order as soon as we get off the phone or we download the orders, so by the time we get your "Please add this" message ... it really is too late for us to do anything about add ons. We know that this really can cause large additional shipping expense, so assume that an add on order will be considered a new order... Sorry!
At this time we can only accept credit card orders. We cannot accept checks, money orders or COD's. We have tried all of these and they all have proved to be difficult for us to handle. We are a very small store and we are doing a tremendous volume. Space is a constant problem and we get in trouble if we cannot ship the same day we get an order. Perhaps we will grow into a full fledged mail order business sometime in the future, but we are a long distance from there at this time.
We keep our costs low, partially by shipping items to you in the same boxes that we get merchandise delivered to us. This happens to be environmentally cool... but we do it because it's cheap. We also use boxes from our neighbors, so your shipment could come in a hair spray box or a paint box!

Privacy Policy -- We don't give your information to anybody else.*
*Well, we do give your address to UPS or the Post Office to get your stuff to you and we do give the credit card companies your card number and expiration date. That's it! Seriously, we don't do any secret collecting and we don't sell or share your info with anybody. Feel free to suggest this complex policy to others wrestling with the privacy issue.

Wisconsin Residents will have to add 5% sales tax and whatever County Tax their County has enacted.
We're pretty new at this internet and mail order business so we'll seem a little rough around the edges at first... but we're honest and try hard so we're pretty sure you'll be pleased with us in the long run! (We are not so new at this anymore, this sentence was probably written in 1996 or 1997. We still seem a little rough around the edges, perhaps a genetic rather than experiential problem. But the second part of the sentence is still true as well)
Returns:
When we make a mistake, e.g. you ordered 1 of something and we sent you 100, returns will be made at our expense. The same goes for stuff we send you that comes broken! 
On the other hand, if you just decide you don't like something, you'll have to pay return shipping and you'll only be refunded the amount you paid for merchandise, not the amount charged for freight and insurance. As long as an item is returned within 30 days of the ship date and is still in saleable condition, we will happily refund your money ( Oh maybe not happily, but without hassling you.) 
Over 30 days, you will have to get an O.K. in advance, from Chuck, the big puffin. Most often he will O.K. such returns, as long as they are reasonable. Returning an item six months after you purchased it is not reasonable. Returning discontinued or no longer "hot" items is not reasonable. For example, don't try returning those 200 beanbag animals you bought for your retirement fund back in 1998.
